Niels Joergen Haugesen is one of the celebrated furniture designers who has achieved much success with a few furniture designs. His furniture designs were done in a way close to perfection, which earned Niels the nickname ‘the minimal maximum’ among his contemporary furniture designers.

Niels Haugesen is mostly recognised for the design work that he did on the Haugesen table and the chair which was named the X-line. Niels is Danish by birth, and he was born in 1936.

Niels designed the distance seating collection which derived its name from its outstanding salient features. These features included the split back support in which the top most section looks like it is floating on top of the lower. This feature enables the design to provide excellent comfort while at the same time maintaining its light simple appearance.

This masterpiece is an improvement on what Niels designed while he was still at the design school. The distance furniture collection was launched for the first time in 2004. It includes a sofa series ranging from two to four-seaters. A corner sofa in addition to a stool as well as an armchair is also in the collection.
